The special issue illustrates the remarkable scholar, philosopher, linguist and English Master who had dedicated his life to literature and Vedic religion during his two decades of stay in Mauritius. Here, he had studied Hindi and Sanskrit and produced two immortal books on Hinduism. ‘The Introduction to the Hindu Faith’ and The Bhagavad Gita. In Mauritius, he had been attending the Bhagavat Katha and delivering lectures on Hindusim. John de Linsgen was the first British scholar who had introduced Rabindranath Tagore in 1936 at the Plaza theatre at Rose Hill by giving a lecture organised by the Indian Cultural Association.
