Indradhanush Magazine: The Contributions of the Indians in the Conquest & Consolidations of the British Rule in Mauritius

The Contributions of the Indians in the Conquest and Consolidations of the British Rule in Mauritius.

This special issue is published to highlight the bi-centenary of the takeover of Mauritius by the British troops in 1810. Indian Sepoys, forming parts of the British troops had the priviledge to plant the flag of victory on Echelle Rock Hill at Montagne Longue; and it seems, that, that battle of victory had been, deliberately made to fall into oblivion, by a certain section of the people in Mauritius. During the British period (1810-1968) slavery was abolished, Indian workers were introduced, the sugar Industry developed, and this process made Mauritius prosperous. Hence, the overall development of Mauritius was realized under the British rule in Mauritius.
