Indradhanush Magazine: Aunauth Beejadhur

Aunauth Beejadhur: A gentlemen of outstanding attainments.

This special issue gives an account of the gradual growth of Aunauth Beejadhur into a literary figure of French expression in Mauritius. Without renouncing the cultural and religious heritage of his ancestors, Aunauth Beejadhur tried to bridge the gap that has been existing between Occidental and Oriental Mauritius. He had studied with great passion the sacred literature of India and at the same time familiarized himself with great literature of French and English. His journalistic approach was exemplary, it was to lead him into politics at first and later to administration. It is with persons of such calibre that the country was liberated from British rule.
