Indradhanush Magazine: Dr Jugroo Seegobin

The first Indo- Mauritian ‘Hindi Speaking’ doctor, who qualified as Medical officer from Paris University in 1926 was a pride to the Indo- Mauritian community. He practised privately for ten years and joined the Govt. service in 1936, and after occupying several posts in the Medical Department; he became the superintendent of Civil Hospital and retired as such in 1957. A great Hindi enthusiast and educationist, he founded and chaired several educational institutions and old people homes such as the Hindu Girl’s College, D. A. V. College, Gayasingh Anathalaye etc. He wrote a book in Hindi on public health and published his world tours’ memoirs serially in Aroyadaye in the same language. Being a philanthropic, he donated generously to several institutions in India and Mauritius.
